Task: Add a New User Account For Yourself

Preliminaries

Before proceeding, make sure you need to explicitly create a new hub user account for yourself.

• Has a hub administrator already set up an account for you and communicated the corresponding credentials? If so, the account is ready for you to sign in using those credentials.
• Is the hub configured to use one or more third-party authentication services? If so, you can sign in using your credentials for any of the configured services. The hub will automatically create a corresponding hub user account if it is configured to do so.

Permissions Needed For This Task

You will only be able to create an account for yourself if the hub is configured so that special user Anonymous has G_CREATE_USER permission. You do not need to determine this in advance: the steps below will explain how to identify this issue.

Create An Account

1. If the CodeSonar Web GUI is not already open, open it now.
2. Click the Sign in link in the page header.

5. Look at the create account tab header.

   

6. Is there a lock icon next to the create account header?
   • YES: the hub is configured to prevent anonymous users from creating new accounts.
     You will not be able to create your own account: ask a hub administrator or other privileged user to create an account for you.
   • NO: you will be able to create a new account. Go on to the next step.
7. Click the create account tab header.
   The Create Account tab will open.

   

8. Enter the username for your new account in the Username field.
   Usernames must be at least one character long, and are case sensitive (so that international character sets can be accommodated).
9. Enter the email address for the new account in the Email Address field.
10. Enter the initial account password in the Password field.
    Under default hub settings, the following minimum password requirements apply.
    • Minimum length: 12 characters
    • Minimum number of character classes (e.g. 'upper case', 'lower case', 'digit'): 3
    If the hub password policy has been modified, a different set of constraints may apply.
11. Enter the initial password again into the Verify Password field.
12. Select Enabled if you want to assign the Enabled role to the new account, otherwise deselect it.
    Being assigned the Enabled role is sufficient to guarantee that the new user account will have G_SIGN_IN permission, but note the following.
    • The account will also need access to an available authentication method. See Hub Authentication: Authentication and Authorization for details.
    • If an administrator has added further role-permissions to the Enabled role, those will also apply.
13. Click Create account.

    If all goes well:

    The new account will be created. If the new account has G_SIGN_IN and G_SIGN_IN_PASSWORD permissions (this will depend on the permissions assigned to the default template user's roles, and on whether or not you selected Enabled), you will be signed in under that account. If the new account does not have G_SIGN_IN and G_SIGN_IN_PASSWORD permissions CodeSonar will print a warning message explaining that the new user cannot sign in.

    Otherwise:

    If there is a problem with any of the information provided, CodeSonar will print a warning message instead of creating the new account. At this point, the options are: Try again: use the information in the warning message to correct the problematic field or fields, then click Create account. Abandon account creation: use your browser's Back functionality to go back to an earlier page, or select Home from the page header to go to the Home page.
