Enabling Checks for this warning class are disabled by default. To enable them, add the following WARNING_FILTER rule to the project configuration file.
WARNING_FILTER += allow class="Untrusted Network Port"

Triggers

CodeSonar ships with library models that allow it to recognize functions such as libc getaddrinfo() that take a network port argument. If one of these functions is called with an untrusted value in the network port parameter position, a warning will be issued.

If you have created a custom library model for some function f() in terms of one of these existing models, calls to f() will also be capable of triggering Untrusted Network Port warnings.

Example

Suppose the project configuration file contains the following rule (this is part of the factory settings for NETWORK_PORT_WHITELIST).

NETWORK_PORT_WHITELIST += ^80$

Then CodeSonar will issue one Untrusted Network Port warning in the following code.

#include <stdlib.h>
#include <netdb.h>

int ut_port(const char *myhost, char *myport)
{
    int rv;
    struct addrinfo *res;
    /* 1234 not permitted by NETWORK_PORT_WHITELIST setting */
    rv = getaddrinfo( myhost, "1234", NULL, &res ); /* 'Untrusted Network Port' warning issued here */
    if (rv)  {
      /* 80 permitted by NETWORK_PORT_WHITELIST setting */
      rv = getaddrinfo( myhost, "80", NULL, &res );
    }
    if (rv==0){freeaddrinfo(res);}
    /* ... */
    return rv;
}
